Vertical Life 1

Bible passage: Isaiah 40:27-31
“27. Why do you say, O Jacob, and complain, O Israel, "My way is hidden from the LORD; my cause is disregarded by my God"? 28. Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. 29. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31. but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. "

It is said that there are two relationships in human life; One is a vertical relationship, and the second is a horizontal relationship.

Vertical relationships include relationships between God and human beings, parents and children, teachers and students, superiors and subordinates; and horizontal relationships include relationships between friends, colleagues, and neighbors. The cross shows the intersection of the horizontal and the vertical, which means that we should not live clinging only to the flesh in this horizontal world, but should live a spiritual life that rises vertically toward the sky. The horizontal world is a world that moves by satisfying the desires of the flesh. Horizontal life in this physical world is pursuing the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life.

However, the vertical world is a world led by Jesus Christ, who is the way, the truth, and the life. The vertical life is looking at things above, transcending the flesh, and lives in pursuit of spiritual things. A fleshly person who is level with this world, looks only at the things of the earth, and pursues the things of the flesh, living a horizontal life. On the contrary, a person who places his hope in the sky, which is perpendicular to this world, and lives in pursuit of spiritual things can be said to live a vertical life.
